The School of Civil Engineering and Architecture held the 2023 National Natural Science Foundation Application summary and 2024 National Natural Science Foundation application mobilization meeting
In order to further improve the application quality and funding rate of our School for 2024 National Fund projects, Civil Engineering organized a mobilization meeting for 2023 National Natural Science Foundation Application Summary and 2024 National Natural Science Foundation application in the afternoon of August 29 in Conference Room 510 of the Research and Development Building. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Zhang Youliang. More than 50 people, including Dean Zhi Zhou, academic backbone, young teachers and scientific research secretary, participated in the event.
At the meeting, Vice President Zhang Youliang seriously analyzed and summarized the main problems in the application of National Natural Science Fund in 2023 of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and made arrangements for the application of National Natural Science Fund in 2024. He required that all scientific researchers, especially new young teachers, should accurately grasp the principles, methods and precautions of fund application, prepare in advance and carefully polish, and contribute to the realization of new breakthroughs in the National Natural Science Fund of our school in 2024.
At the meeting, five teachers, including Dabo Xin, Wanqiu Liu, Jie Cui, Lin S, and Y.P. Lei, who were the recipients of the National Natural Science Foundation in 2023, were invited to share their experience and suggestions in the application. The five teachers' wonderful speeches gave us important inspiration from different aspects, and were warmly applauded and thanked by everyone.
Finally, Dean Zhi Zhou once again reiterated the great significance of the National Natural Science Foundation for talent training, research team building and discipline school development, and shared his successful experience with the participating teachers. It is hoped that all teachers will focus on the needs of the country and the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, carefully revise the questions based on the expert opinions and suggestions of the judges, and steadily promote the application of the National Natural Science Fund in 2024 against the time node, and wish you success in your application.

Professor Jianzhuang Xiao from Tongji University came to our School to give an academic report
On February 12, 16:00-18:00, Jianzhuang Xiao, Professor of Tongji University, Director of Department of Architectural Engineering and winner of JCQN Science Fund, at the invitation of Dean Zhi Zhou, gave an academic report entitled "Basic Theory and Technology of Recycled Concrete" for our school in Conference Room 510 of the Research and Development Building. The meeting will be conducted in a combination of online and offline. The academic report was presided over by Dean Zhi Zhou, who introduced the relevant scientific research achievements and research trends of Professor Jianzhuang Xiao. More than 40 teachers and postgraduates of our school listened to the report through the on-site and Tencent Conference.

Professor Xiao's report introduced the principles and methods of concrete recycling, the theory of recycled concrete preparation, the innovative development of recycled concrete, the application criteria of recycled concrete, and the 10-year review of the special committee of recycled concrete, and shared the scientific research achievements and applications of their team in the construction engineering industry. He suggested that when we design construction projects in the future, we must consider three aspects: safety, economy and low carbon. After the report, Professor Xiao answered the questions of interest to teachers and students.
President Zhi Zhou summarized the presentation and put forward the future development vision from the importance of structural health monitoring of tropical marine civil engineering, related scientific research exchanges and cooperation and the construction of postgraduate backbone courses, etc. After the report, he also had a discussion with some of the relevant teachers in our school.
Professor Xiao is a doctoral supervisor at Tongji University, mainly engaged in the basic theory of recycled concrete materials and structures, key technologies and seismic disaster prevention and application of research, edited the first domestic recycled concrete technical specifications, the first to carry out the key technology of 3D printing recycled concrete as well as recycled concrete structures, carbon reduction design theory, executive director of the Stress Concrete Branch, director of the Academic Committee on Recycled Concrete, and so on. He has won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award once, and the first prize of Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award eight times; published four academic monographs in Chinese and one academic monograph in English (Springer); published more than 400 SCI, EI-recorded high-level academic papers, the H-factor of Web of Science (WOS) is 53, the H-factor of China Citation Database (CCD) is 58; the volume of papers and results of the field of recycled concrete is ranked first in the world. The volume of thesis results in the field of recycled concrete is ranked first in the world (Scopus database).

Professor Kaoshan Dai from Sichuan University gave an academic lecture in our school
At 16:30 PM on February 10, 2023, in the conference room 510 of the R&D building, Professor Kaoshan Dai, director of the Department of Civil Engineering of Sichuan University, was invited to make an academic report entitled "Disaster Prevention of Engineering Structure Toughness" for our school in the form of online and offline synchronous. Professor Dai is the executive director of the Research Center for Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Prevention in Western China and the director of the Faculty Committee of the School of Post-Disaster Reconstruction of Sichuan University, mainly engaged in disaster prevention research of energy infrastructure projects.
In the report, Professor Dai introduced the technical means of toughness disaster prevention of engineering structures, focused on the explanation of shock isolation and absorption technology and intelligent monitoring methods, and briefly introduced the engineering application of relevant technologies in different regions of the country, including Hainan and countries along the Belt and Road. After the presentation, Professor Dai had a heated discussion with the teachers and students, and answered the questions of interest from the teachers and students.
Professor Dai graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2009 and was selected by the National High-level Talent Program. Currently, he is a professor of Sichuan University, Executive Director of the Research Center for Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Prevention in Western China, Director of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Chairman of the Faculty Committee of the School of Post-Disaster Reconstruction. At the same time, he is also a visiting research professor of the University of Western Ontario, a member of the Seismological Society of China, a member of the Wind Power Branch of the China Steel Structure Association, a vice chairman of the Seismological Society of Sichuan Province, and a member of the editorial board of the journal "World Earthquake Engineering". He is mainly engaged in disaster prevention research of energy infrastructure projects, presided over more than 30 scientific research projects such as international cooperation projects of National key research and development program and National Natural Science Foundation, and published nearly 150 journal papers. His research won the first prize of Chongqing Science and Technology Progress and the second prize of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress.

Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hainan University, investigated Academician Dong Q's scientific research and innovation team
On the morning of December 23, 2022, Fu Xuanguo, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Hainan University, went to the Ecological Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center and Academician Dong Q's scientific research and innovation team for research. Foreign academician Dong Q of the Japanese Academy of Engineering, Vice President Yuan-fu Tian of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Professor H. Wang and Associate Researcher Chaoyuan Zeng accompanied the research.
Secretary Fu listened to the construction ideas report of Academician Dong Q's scientific research and innovation team of the Ecological Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center, and investigated the progress and achievements transformation of tropical island carbon sink and large-scale engineering storage, coastal geotechnical engineering, carbon-based new materials/composites, soil pollution and remediation projects. Secretary Fu then came to New State Key Laboratory 402 to deeply understand the operation of the team's self-developed experimental equipment and purchased equipment, and inspected the office environment of graduate students and team teachers.
Secretary Fu analyzed the significance of strengthening the construction of the "Ecological Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center" from the aspects of scientific research strategic positioning, service fields and national needs. The National Ecological Civilization Pilot Zone is one of the strategic positioning of Hainan's "three districts and one center". The scientific research and innovation team should make full use of the opportunity of the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, actively give play to its own advantages, reflect the characteristics of multi-disciplines, and give the ecological civilization collaborative innovation center distinctive Hainan characteristics.
Secretary Fu stressed that it is necessary to adhere to the orientation of solving the technical problems of low-carbon development of Hainan's "two high" enterprises, focus on the core needs of Hainan's ecological civilization construction, rely on the multi-disciplinary collaborative development of scientific research and innovation platform, and contribute to the realization of the national ecological civilization experiment zone and the "double carbon" strategic goal.
