1.Communication Engineering
(1) Introduction
Hainan University set up the undergraduate program of Communication Engineering in 2002, which wasapproved as a national first-class undergraduate constructionsitein 2019.
The major follows the standard of engineering education professional certification and carries out construction in the mode of talent cultivation of new engineering disciplines, and enrolls students in the major category of electronic information engineeringmajor. In accordance with the basic principle of "wide scope, thick foundation, strong ability and high quality", themajoradopts the cultivation mode of "1+3" where students are required to study general education courses, basic engineering courses and basic courses of major categories in the first year, and professional courses according to their interests and specialties in the second year.

(2) Academic System and Degree
The basic academic system is 4 years. Thismajoradopts a flexible system of3-6 years.
Students having completed the courses stipulated in the professional training program with passing grades are qualified to graduate. The Bachelor of Engineering is conferred upon those who have fulfilled the prescribed requirements.
(3) Training Objectives
Oriented to the talent demands for national strategy, regional economic and social development and information development and rooted in the principle of fostering virtue through education, this major aims to cultivate compound senior professional technicians with sound personality, broad knowledge base and professional proficiency, who have a sense of social responsibility, international vision, innovative spirit and practical ability, possess basic theory knowledge and engineering application ability in the field of information communication, and have the ability to engage themselves in research, development, design, management, maintenance and technical support in the communication, electronic information and other related programs.
Graduates should be able to achieve the following objectives by approx. 5-year study:
Objective 1:Be able toadapt to the development of modern communication technology, integrate the basic knowledge of engineering mathematics and latest professional knowledge of engineering major, and to provide systematic solutions to complex engineering projects.
Objective 2:Be able tofollow the cutting-edge technologies in communication engineering and related fields, and to utilize modern tools to carry out design, development, manufacturing or application of related products in the major;
Objective 3:Be familiar with relevant laws, standards and codes in the field of engineering and their application in engineering, and be able to take environment and sustainability into account during engineering practice.
Objective 4:Be able tomaintain a healthy body and mind, continuously improve humanistic literacy and professional skills, andtocarry out effective communication and collaboration as a key member or leader of a team.
Objective 5:Be able topossess globalization consciousness, continuously develop themselves to adapt to changes in domestic and international situations and environments, and continue to expand their knowledge and abilities and broaden international outlook through continuous learning, carrying out decision-making related to engineering project management and economy.
(4) Graduation Requirements
Graduates should meet the following requirements in knowledge and ability:
1. Engineering Knowledge: Master basic and professional knowledge related to mathematics, physics and engineering required for engineering work in the field of electronic information and communication, and be able to establish mathematical models for specific objects and solve them; and be able to apply the knowledge and mathematical modeling methods in deducing and analyzing complex engineering problems and comparing and integrating solutions in the field of electronic information and communication.
2. Problem Analysis: Be able to identify, judge, express and analyze complex engineering problems in the field of communication by applying basic principles and mathematical modeling methods of mathematics and physical and engineering sciences. Students should be able to analyze the influencing factors of a process and seek multiple solutions to a problem through literature search and research with the aim to provide valid conclusions.
3. Design/Development of Solutions: Master basic design/development method and technology for the whole cycle and process of engineering design and product development in the field of communication, and be able to design units and systems meeting specific demands in response to complex engineering problems, and innovative solutions on the premise of taking into account the impact of various factors affecting the design objectives and technology solutions, including the society, health, safety, laws, culture and environment.
4. Research: Be able to analyze and study complex engineering problems in the field of communication based on scientific principles and methods; select research routes, design experimental schemes, construct experimental systems, carry out experiments safely and collect experimental data correctly according to the characteristics of the objects; analyze and interpret the experimental results, and to obtain reasonable and effective conclusions through information integration.
5. Use of Modern Tools: Have the ability to develop, select and use appropriate techniques, resources, modern engineering tools, information technology tools, communications network equipment and professional simulation software to carry out analysis, computation and design, and conduct predictions, simulations and measurement of complex engineering problems in the field of communication, and to understand limitations thereof.
6. Engineering and Society: Be able to make reasonable analysis based on relevant background knowledge of communication engineering major, evaluate the impact of engineering practice and solutions to complex engineering problems on society, health, safety, law and culture, and understand the responsibilities to be assumed.
7. Environment and Sustainable Development: Be able to understand the concepts and connotations of environmental protection and sustainable development, and to evaluate the impacts of engineering practices with complex engineering problems in the field of communication engineering on sustainable development of the environment and society.
8. Professional Norms: Have good literacy in humanities and social sciences and strong sense of social responsibility and be able to understand and comply with professional ethics and norms and fulfill a duty in communication engineering practice.
9. Individuals and Teams: Be able toassume the responsibilities of individuals, team members and persons in charge in teams made up of talents in different fields.
10. Communication: Be able to effectively conduct communication and interaction on complex engineering issues in the field of communication engineering with industry partners and the public, including writing reports and designing manuscripts, presenting statements, and articulating or responding to instructions.Graduates should developan international perspective and be able to communicate and interact in an intercultural context.
11. Project Management: Master engineering management principles and economic decision-making methods, understand important economic and managerial factors involved in communication engineering activities in the field of electronic information engineering and be able to apply them in a multidisciplinary environment.
12. Lifelong Learning: Have the awareness of autonomous and lifelong learning, and be able to track development dynamics in the field of information communication and keep on learning and adapt to development.
