The inception of the Electronic Science and Technology program dates back to 2010, and the first cohort of students was enrolled in 2011. With a keen understanding of national strategic initiatives and the economic progress of the Hainan Free Trade Port, particularly in the areas of land, sea and air economic development, as well as the growing demands of the marine electronic information industry in the South China Sea, the program has established distinct research entities such as the Microelectronics Research Institute, Solid-State Circuit Research Institute, Microwave Technology Research Institute and Experimental Teaching Center based on the principles of demand-driven, problem-oriented, limited objectives and collaborative innovation. These entities operate with relative autonomy while fostering a collaborative environment, facilitating innovation platforms and team construction. Furthermore, partnerships have been forged with prestigious research establishments in Hainan Province such as CETC Marine Information Technology Research Institute, CETC Taiji Guohai Xintong Research Institute, Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, CAS and Aerospace Information Research Institute, CAS, and esteemed semiconductor companies outside the province such as Nations Technologies Inc. VeriSilicon, Eswin and Fly-Chip as well as renowned IC design software giants abroad such as Intel. Through these affiliations, the program solidifies its groundwork in international-standard IC design, establishing joint laboratories and cultivating a preliminary understanding of the fabless knowledge system design concept. Simultaneously, the program endeavors to explore an integrated talent cultivation model anchored by the principles of discipline competitions, scientific research and mentorship, thereby constructing an innovative framework that seamlessly integrates teaching and research, theory and practice, and in-class and extracurricular activities.
