1. Ecology
The ecology major of Hainan University was approved as a master authorization site in ecology in 1990, a doctoral authorization site in ecology in 2011, which started undergraduate enrollment in ecology in 2018, and was approved as a post-doctoral program in 2019. It became a first-class undergraduate program construction site at the provincial level in Hainan Province in 2021.
The ecology major of Hainan University has a perfect discipline system and has established a perfect talent cultivation system from undergraduates to doctoral candidates. The undergraduate training program covers the main branches of ecology and biology, and the curriculum focuses on the intersection of ecology and geoscience, environmental science, information science and other disciplines.
The ecology major of Hainan University aims to cultivate professionals with systematic and solid ecological knowledge and practical skills, strong ecological awareness, high comprehensive quality and innovative ability, who are capable to engage in scientific research, teaching and management of ecology, environmental protection, ecological planning and other related fields.
The ecology major has a strong faculty and complete undergraduate teaching hardware facilities, including the Hainan Tropical Ecological Environment Restoration Engineering Research Center, the Southern China Forest Ecosystem Joint Research Network, the Hainan Academician Li Bailian Workstation, the Hainan Academician Zou Leming Workstation, the Hainan (Hainan University) Work Base of the China Association for Science and Technology's HOME Program, and the Hainan University Land Biodiversity Research Center around the South China Sea, providing a good research and training platform for undergraduate teaching.

2. Environmental Science
Agricultural Environmental Protection Major, which was established in 1993, was the predecessor of Department of Environmental Science of School of Ecology and Environment of Hainan University. In 2019, the School of Ecology and Environment established the Department of Environmental Science officially. In order to further implement the important national strategic plan of "sustainable development and ecological civilization construction" and to build a world-class discipline, the Department of Environmental Science has attached great importance to the introduction and cultivation of high-level talents since its establishment. The department currently has a total of 51 faculty members, including 48 full-time faculty members, with 100% holding a doctoral degree, including a high-level faculty of 15 professors, 24 associate professors and 9 lecturers, and 3 flexibly introduced faculty members. The faculty team actively participates in national and local environmental protection key and major projects in the fields of environmental pollution control, ecological protection and sustainable development, contributing to the promotion of ecological civilization and environmental protection in Hainan Province.In recent years, the teachers in the department have made remarkable breakthroughs in national talent selection for the "New Century Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Program" and Young Chang Jiang Scholars, who have won many awards such as Hainan Provincial Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award, Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Award, and Hainan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, etc. The department has also been awarded the Hainan Provincial Excellent Teaching Achievement Award.Through our undergraduate and postgraduate programs, we aim to provide students with a well-rounded education in environmental science and engineering, so as to cultivate professionals with innovative thinking and the ability to solve environmental issues.In recent years, our students have won important awards in national and provincial competitions such as Challenge Cup Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Work Competition and Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, who have published more than 100 papers in national journals as well. The Department of Environmental Sciences has borne fruitful results in discipline construction, talent training, scientific research and international cooperation, which is striving to steadily approach the goal of building a world-class discipline!
