Founded in 2015, the major of Marine Engineering and Technology in Hainan University emerged in response to the national strategy of becoming a maritime power and the significant needs of Hainan Province's development in marine economic industries. It is also a characteristic undergraduate program prioritized for development in Hainan Province. In recent years, with the rapid launch of Hainan Free Trade Port construction and the implementation of major national policies such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the marine economic industry in Hainan Province has entered a rapid development period, creating an increasingly urgent demand for talents in marine engineering disciplines. The Department of Marine Engineering and Technology has also actively adjusted its disciplinary development direction, relying on the "South China Sea Marine Resource Utilization National Key Laboratory" to actively integrate into the construction of one of the world-class disciplinary clusters of "South China Sea Marine Resource Utilization" among the three first-class disciplinary clusters of Hainan University.
In addition, the successful establishment and smooth start of the national interdisciplinary "Tropical Marine Engineering and Technology" new engineering discipline in 2020 has also provided unprecedented new opportunities and challenges for the leapfrog development of the undergraduate program in Marine Engineering and Technology at Hainan University.
Objectives:
We aim to train senior technical talents with a combination of theoretical knowledge and skills in marine engineering and technology, who are capable of working in national and local government agencies for the planning, design, management, and education of marine
engineering structures, as well as port and channel engineering, marine energy development, and other related fields. These individuals possess strong innovation and practical abilities.
Main courses:
Advanced Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, University Physics, General Chemistry, Engineering Drawing, Marine Engineering Environment, Marine Structures, Structural Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Physical Oceanography, Principles of Hydraulic Concrete Structure, Principles of Hydraulic Steel Structure, Engineering Hydrology, Coastal Dynamic Landform.
Employment:
Graduates can find employment in a variety of fields including marine engineering design and research units, marine and maritime agencies, domestic and foreign ship classification societies, ship companies, shipyards, offshore oil units, higher education institutions, ship transportation management, ship trade and operation, customs, marine insurance, and maritime arbitration. They can also seek employment in similar industries and information technology-related companies.
