Emphasizing Practice and Building New Achievements Hainan University Achieved Excellent Results in MCM and ICM for Undergraduate in the United States

Recently, the results of the 39th Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) for Undergraduate in the United States was released. Hainan University team won one of Final Winners, two of Meritorious Winners, and 8 of Honorable Mentions.

Zhou Yongheng, enrolled in 2020, majoring in Information Security at School of Cyberspace Security , and Xie Juele and Ye Jiahui, enrolled in 2020, majoring in Finance at the School of Economics were awarded the "Finalist" certificate.

The instructor team of mathematical modeling of Hainan University is led by Professor Wang Zhigang from the School of Science, and is composed of multiple experienced teachers. Through a combination of lectures and practice, the team solidifies the foundation of the mathematics discipline and improves students' comprehensive abilities in establishing mathematical models and using computer technology to solve practical problems.

The list of teams that won the second prize or above in MCM of American Undergraduate

It is learned that the Mathematical Challenge In Modeling (MCM) and the Interdisciplinary Challenge in Modeling (ICM) for American undergraduate students, started in 1985 and in 2000 respectively. It is organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application (COMAP) and received support from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the National Security Agency (NSA), Strong support from organizations such as the Operations Research and The Institute for Operations Research and The Management Sciences (INFORMS). In 2023, a total of 20858 teams from 22 countries and regions around the world participated in this competition. (Reported by Rong Rong, Deng Liao and Wang Shuhui)
