Lim Chiew Ah Visits Well-known Professors of Hainan History

Lim Chiew Ah, General President of the Federation of Hainan Associations Malaysia, together with her delegation, paid a visit to couple Zhou Weimin and Tang Lingling, two HNU retired professors known for their research on Geng Lu Bu (Manual of Sea Routes). This visit was accompanied by Fu Xuanguo, Chairman of the University Council.

Talking with the two professors, Lim Chiew Ah affectionately recalled the 20-year long profound friendship with them, and expressed appreciation for their contributions to the research in the field of Hainan history and culture, such as Li tattoos, Hainan genealogy, overseas Chinese culture, and the “Geng Lu Bu” in the South China Sea. She said that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia and the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship, and the English and Malay versions ofA History of Sino-Malaysian Interactions, a book co-authored by Zhou Weimin and Tang Lingling will help more Malays to have an in-depth understanding of the connotation of Malaysia-China cultural exchanges and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Fu Xuanguo firstly expressed his warm welcome to Lim Chiew Ah and her delegation. And then he said that professor Zhou and professor Tang, with good academic reputation and morality, have been devoted to the study of Hainan’s history and culture for decades and produced numerous works. Moreover, their research achievements have filled the academic gap in Hainan’s cultural and historical studies, and more importantly, made positive contributions to China’s political and diplomatic work. They are regarded as role models for the younger generation of Hainan University scholars and are the valuable asset of the University.

Professor Zhou Weimin expressed gratitude to Lim Chiew Ah for her efforts in the publication of the English and Malay versions ofA History of Sino-Malaysian Interactions. He said that HNU has created very favorable environment for their research, and he hoped to make more contribution to the development of the Party and the country.
